The Capacitor Discharge (CD) stud welding process is extremely fast. Weld times of .004 seconds can be achieved. Because of the short weld times, no flux or shielding gas is required to achieve high quality welds. Short weld times are good for welding onto thin sheet metal. These welds can be achieved with minimal to no reverse side marking. Such low heat is generated by the short weld times that reverse sides can be pre-painted without damaging the paint. CD studs are easy to install and can be done by inexperienced operators.
